Title: Forest Guardian
Description: The idea behind this piece is that it's a guardian of an enchanted forest. An ancient being being sworn to defend its home. Titled quercus the scientific name for an oak tree I painted The guardian to look like the bark of a tree. This tree is hand-built with Clay. In the beginning I gave an attempt to building it with the pinch pot technique so it would be hollow. Building wasn't going as smoothly as I wished so I just built it as a normal bust. The sculpting phase for this piece took longest. There are many divots on the guardians back and shoulders to demonstrate bone placement. This creature was sculpted to appear thin and muscular. The oyster mushrooms on its back demonstrate aging. Most trees grow fungi when they begin to decay. Once this fired acrylics were used to paint it.
