| Description: | Coil and slab-built figurative sculpture decorated with underglaze on the exterior and a shiny black glaze on the interior. Ever since childhood, I've had extreme difficulty with dissociation and identifying my own emotions. It feels similar to being in a museum and looking at artworks behind glass, able to see but never touch or feel them. At a loss for what to do when my depressive feelings reached an unbearable height, I split myself into fragments. I've always had a rich internal world. When I'm feeling empty or overwhelmed I close my eyes and sit down across the table in an intricately imagined cafe from the faceless representation of my shame and guilt. When staring into his gaping black maw, I straighten my backbone and my tie like a political diplomat and I puppet both sides of the conversion. |
